When the studio was invited to exhibit inside a vaulted gallery hall, it chose not to mount a conventional show. Instead, it moved its working office into the space for a month, walling it in with concrete blockwork and inviting visitors to take a peep.

The enclosure held space enough for six to work. Standard openings in the precast blocks let drawings and photos show through, just enough to glimpse. Mirrors, tilted behind some of the openings, caught the screens inside. Models sat on high shelves, sketches on tracing paper backlit from the inside. Around the desks and drawing boards, makeshift furniture was built from whatever was on hand.

The office was up and running within days. A door, clad in the same trimmed blockwork, closed the wall into one continuous skin and kept visitors from stepping through. Small holes and bright light inside gave the space a strange, exposed kind of privacy: seen, but sealed off. The message ran both ways, to the audience outside and the architects within.
